Visiting the Pacific Northwest was definitely a new experience unlike any other and a perfect getaway within the United States. If you’re looking for outdoor adventures, nature, peace, and views, Washington and Oregon are great states to look into. While both states are unique in their own ways, Washington will forever have my heart, but it’s probably because I have a deep appreciation for mountains. Oregon is still beyond beautiful and its forestry is on another level. Both states receive a lot of rain and with that comes lush greenery, rushing rivers, and waterfalls dispersed all throughout. Also, I want to argue that our country is full of underrated and overlooked hidden gems. So many beautiful sites all around and want to implore you to visit some of them whenever you get a chance. Now, let’s get back to business. Looking to potentially explore Washington and Oregon? Or simply wanting a perfect and serene getaway? Then read on, friends.

Washington

Seattle

Located on a land neck between Elliott Bay and Lake Washington, Seattle is the largest city of the Pacific Northwest and one of the most affluent urban centers in the United States. It’s also a major port of entry to Asia and Alaska. A very special city as it’s surrounded by water, mountains, and evergreen forests. Seattle is also famous for its ground coffee and numerous coffeehouses, so do yourself a favor and order a cup of coffee from a local coffee shop. I recommend going to Zoka Coffee Company, a specialty coffee roaster based in the heart of Seattle. I ordered a Lavender Mocha with Oat Milk – a delicious choice!

Mercer Island

I have too many great things to say about this cute little Island located in the Seattle metropolitan area. I really enjoy peace and quiet, so my boyfriend and I decided to rent an Airbnb in this area. For those wanting to see Seattle but craving to stay somewhere chill, Mercer Island could be a great option as it’s the best of both worlds. If you’re looking for a great breakfast place and love pancakes, I advise visiting the Pancake Corral, which is known for its delicious flapjacks, hashbrowns, waffles, and eggs – and tastes like it's straight out of your grandma's kitchen.

Diablo Lake

Due to seasonal avalanches, much of Diablo Lake is inaccessible to the public during the winter and spring, making May through September the best time to visit. You can also swim here! However, we visited the area in March, only to find out (once we got there) that everything was closed, including the campground. Truly sad, but I know Diablo Lake is one of the North Cascades' finest gems. The water is known for being pristine and turquoise.

Mount Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest

The Mount Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest is one of the most visited forests in the country and has a total area of 1,724,229 acres. There’s just too much to see! It includes glacier-covered peaks, spectacular mountain meadows, and old-growth forests, all great for outdoor opportunities.

Leavenworth – Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest

Leavenworth is magical in the wintertime and a perfect place for those who enjoy outdoor activities, specifically in the snow. This little town has is made up of Alpine-style buildings, German restaurants, and the most important – enchanting mountains. On our drive there we stopped at The Alps Fudge & Candy, which produces small batches of over 200 products, including homemade fudge. Leavenworth also has cute, cabin-like Airbnb’s scattered all around. If you’re looking for a Narnia-type getaway, away from people, covered in snow and magic, then you should look into staying in Leavenworth.

Oregon

Oceanside

Since we only stayed in Oregon for two nights, we decided to explore the city of Portland and Oceanside. Oceanside is on the coast of Oregon and is built upon a steep hillside that overlooks the beachfront – offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. We decided to dine in at the Schooner Restaurant & Lounge, providing locally sourced, delicious seafood.

That’s it for now, folks. I hope you enjoyed my list and I want to remind you to never stop exploring. Prioritize experience over “things”. As always, my goal is to inspire you to become your best self, fall more in love with life, and to dream endlessly. For those who have visited, anything you would add to the list? Let me know in the comments below!
